Mickleover 3 v 1 Nuneaton Borough
Nuneaton Borough made the hour long trip to Derbyshire to play Mickleover Football Club. With the Boro’s playoff spot secured, it was the hosts who needed to get something out of the game to be in with a chance of promotion from the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central. Despite the April showers, the 4G pitch at the Don Amott Arena was in great condition for the game. It’s a lovely ground, with a capacity of 1,500 (280 seated) and a family-friendly atmosphere.
A strong breeze had an affect on the game, with Mickleover getting the upper hand in the first half with the wind carrying a Trueman cross to Dales, who hammered home Mickleover’s first goal.
In the second half, th Boro brought on sub, Luke Benbow, to try to cancel out the 1 goal deficit. However, after 58 minutes, Trueman ran through the Boro defence and poked the ball past Breeden, making it 2-0.
With just 14 minutes to go, the Boro’s search for a goal was rewarded with Benbow scoring from the penalty sport, after Charles was fouled in the Mickleover goal area. At 2-1, the Boro were hopeful of getting something from the match, until the 80th minute when Dales cut in from the wing to slot the ball past Breeden into the far corner.
The 3-1 victory put Mickleover back in 6th place, with 3 games left to play.
