FA Vase Semi-final First Leg: Worcester City 1-0 Great Wakering Rovers

With no Nuneaton Borough matches to photograph, it was great to get the call from the Non-League Paper to travel to the Sixfields Stadium to photograph the FA Vase semi-final first leg between Worcester City and Great Wakering Rovers. This was the biggest match I’ve photographed so far since starting out as a sports photographer.

Great Wakering Rovers set up to make it difficult for the hosts to break through. With few chances, and knowing that there was still the second leg to play, the game seemed destined to end in a draw. Not the best result when you need a photo for the paper!

In the 66th minute, Chris Knight headed in a deflected corner from Adam Mace. However, the celebrations were cut short when it was disallowed for a foul on the keeper. Despite the disappointment, it gave a sense that Worcester City could get something out of the game.

On the 77th minute, super-sub, Elliott Hartley, cut inside from the right and curled his long range shot into the top corner, giving the Blues a 1-0 advantage going into the second leg, and I got the photo I needed for the paper!
